Preserving the Pride of Our Land – The Journey of Belahi Cows

What are Belahi Cows?

Belahi cows are one of the only locally available indigenous breeds in our region. Known for their resilience and adaptability, these cows produce milk with high nutritional and medicinal value. Unlike exotic breeds, Belahi cows thrive in local climates and require minimal maintenance.

One of their unique features is their natural grazing habit — they go out daily to graze freely in the open fields, which keeps them healthy and well-adjusted to the environment. Sadly, their numbers have been dwindling, and that inspired our family to take action.

A Modest Beginning

Our journey began as a family of four who started this initiative to preserve and improve the breed of Belahi cows, which is the only available local breed. We started small — with just a few cows and a lot of learning. We reached out to older farmers, explored traditional cattle-care techniques, and committed ourselves to preserving the Belahi breed.
